3 Trust Staff Members head to China for Premier Skills
Birmingham City FC Community Trust have recently had three staff members travel to Beijing, China working on the Premier Skills programme in conjunction with the Premier League and the British Council.
Chris Beard, Craig Gill and John Healy spent eight days working with school teachers on a phase 1 course teaching them both on the field and in the classroom. Led by the expertise of the three professional coaches, the teachers strengthened their knowledge and understanding of inclusive development through football and will now become pivotal figures within their schools, responsible for initiating, designing, developing andimplementing football programs and tackling issues within their communities.
The on field activities were based around various coaching topics helping the teachers widen their knowledge on skills and techniques involved in both session planning and the practical delivery of coaching sessions. The classroom sessions were based around nutritional advice as well as other various areas including improving the learners as coaches and encouraging them think outside the box.
It was then down to the learners to put what they had learnt into practice, coaching in pairs and then overcoming fears to coach alone. All of the participants were observed by the community staff and all came out with flying colours with the staff seeing a massive improvement from day one to day 6.
Then on the final day came the big test for the Chinese teachers with them having to organise an event for 40 local school children. Again they came out with flying colours with all concerned having a very enjoyable experience.
Birmingham City FC Community Trust would like to thank Kate Hodgkinson from the Premier League and Chen Guang, Li Yan, Jazreel Goh from the British Council as well as the interpreters Yang Yue, Zhang Anqi and Wu Fang and not forgetting the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and the China Football Association and the excellent facilities at Beijing Capital University of Physical Education for giving Chris, Craig and John the opportunity to work on the Premier Skills programme in Beijing.
